“For as long as I can remember, I’ve carried a dream– to inspire young innovators to discover their talents and potential through STEM. What I needed was a foundation to build my leadership skills and bring that dream to life”, says Christian Amoafo Ofori-Appiah, a 2025 YSG Ambassador from the Eastern Region.
That opportunity came when I joined the GSTEP Youth Steering Group (YSG), a life-changing experience that became the turning point in my leadership journey. YSG gave me purpose. It became the platform where my passion could take shape and where I learned what true leadership means; serving others, staying curious, and turning ideas into action.
Through YSG’s mentorship sessions and masterclasses, I gained practical skills that have stayed with me to this day, from planning and organizing community events to improving my communication and project management abilities. I learned how to share ideas clearly, mobilize people, and manage initiatives with confidence. Every session felt like an investment in my growth, nurturing both my mindset and my capacity to make an impact.
But beyond the training, YSG connected me to a family of like-minded young innovators. Together, we shared ideas, solved challenges, and inspired each other to think bigger and bolder. It was this community that pushed me to believe that my dream could become something tangible — something that could change lives.
That belief became the foundation of STEM Embassy, an initiative I founded after my YSG experience. It was born to reach students where they are and ignite their curiosity about STEM. Through school outreach programs, mentorship sessions, and interactive workshops, we’ve been able to inspire hundreds of young students and teachers to embrace innovation and creative problem-solving.
Every time I visit a classroom or talk to a young student about STEM, I see a reflection of my own journey — the same curiosity, the same potential, waiting for someone to believe in it. And that’s what YSG did for me: they believed in me before I fully believed in myself.
Today, when I look at how far STEM Embassy has come, I see the seeds that YSG planted, seeds of leadership, courage, and community impact. I am forever grateful to the team for giving me the tools, confidence, and mentorship to transform a personal dream into a platform that now inspires others.
My YSG journey has helped me discover who I am and what I’m capable of achieving. And for that, I’ll always carry its lessons with pride and gratitude. Thank you GSTEP.
