15 Teams in Obuasi inducted into the GSTEP Challenge

On Tuesday 25th July 2023, the Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Prize 15 finalist teams and around the Obuasi Municipal District in the Ashanti region. was inducted into the challenge, 15 finalist teams within the Obuasi Municipal District in the Ashanti Region. The event took place at the Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

With a charged and very exciting atmosphere, Afua Asiamah Adjei, Executive Director for DreamOval Foundation ushered the finalist teams, mentors, and coaches into the GSTEP programme. Beaming with smiles, she welcomed them and encouraged all to put in their very best.

Constance Agyeman, the founder of GSTEP, delivered an introductory speech and provided an update on the progress of the GSTEP challenge to date. With great enthusiasm, she expressed her anticipation for the upcoming phase of the Challenge. She reiterated the primary aim of the Challenge is to ensure that young people receive the necessary support to discover and cultivate opportunities in STEM and entrepreneurship.

The Project Coordinator of the DreamOval Foundation, Mina Asabea, thanked Regional STEM Coordinators of the Ghana Education Service (GES), as well as the teachers and all officials of GES, for their commitment towards the GSTEP Challenge.

The teams participated in a series of sessions in STEM and team building. The exercise aimed to foster teamwork and collaborative skills among participants. There were also workshop sessions organized for teachers, mentors, and coaches, acquainting them with the program and equipping them with essential guidelines and resources. These workshops aimed to empower them to effectively fulfilling their roles and responsibilities throughout the GSTEP Programme

Keren Beechem, Programmes Manager for the DreamOval Foundation, who facilitated the programme for the day and encouraged the teams to be actively involved in the programme to obtain the best from the programme.

In the subsequent weeks, the finalists will put together prototypes of their submitted ideas. They will also participate in mentoring and coaching sessions where support will be provided in developing their business plans and prototype. The finalist teams will receive technical knowledge while being supported to develop social skills including communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
