GSTEP Engages Students Across Participating Regions for the 2026 Challenge

In an exciting start to the 2026 GSTEP Challenge, the GSTEP Consortium visited schools across the four participating regions to engage young innovators in their districts. Through interactive sessions, students learned how to identify community problems, develop STEM-based solutions, and prepare impactful application submissions for the 2026 Challenge.

The outreach program aimed to raise awareness about the Challenge, explain the application process, and inspire students to develop innovative STEM solutions that address real challenges affecting their communities.

During the visits, students were introduced to the purpose of the GSTEP Challenge and how it empowers young innovators to transform ideas into practical solutions. Facilitators guided students on identifying pressing community problems, brainstorming creative solutions, and presenting their ideas effectively.

The sessions were highly interactive, giving students opportunities to discuss, collaborate, and actively participate in problem-solving exercises. Many students shared their own ideas and explored how STEM could be used to tackle local challenges. This hands-on approach helped students understand the steps involved in developing strong, well-structured project proposals.

Students were encouraged to work together, think critically, and explore sustainable solutions in areas such as health, agriculture, education, environmental sustainability, and other pressing community needs. The outreach also emphasized resilience, perseverance, and the importance of refining ideas through practice and mentorship.

By the end of the program, students across all regions were energized, informed, and motivated to take part in the 2026 GSTEP Challenge. Many expressed excitement about applying and seeing their ideas make a real difference in their communities. The outreach successfully sparked curiosity, creativity, and a sense of purpose, setting the stage for a vibrant and innovative Challenge year.
